Fans of the hugely popular Netflix series Daredevil, as well as of Jon Benthal, will rejoice with the official news (as was recently reported by superherohype.com) that Marvel and Netflix have confirmed a Punisher spin-off series centering around Frank Castle’s one man war against the underworld, with Benthal reprising his role as the fan-favorite Marvel anti-hero, The Punisher.
Steve Lightfoot has been hired as the series’ show runner as was recently confirmed by Cindy Holland, Netflix Vice President of Original Content, along with the head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb who had this to say about the upcoming Punisher series, “We want to thank the fans who are clamoring for more of Jon’s stunning and powerful performance as Frank Castle from ‘Marvel’s Daredevil.’” Loeb went on to say, “Now combined with Showrunner Steve Lightfoot’s compelling writing, we’re thrilled to bring ‘Marvel’s The Punisher’ to Netflix.”
Comic fans are also surely to be ecstatic with the news of the new Punisher series as it will add to an already impressive line up of quite a few Super Hero themed shows that are being produced by Marvel Entertainment and Netflix; Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and now of course, The Punisher.
Presently there has been no announcement regarding when Benthal’s Punisher series will begin production or when it is set to air on Netflix. For now however comic lovers can simply bask in the knowledge that more Marvel greatness is soon heading their way. EXCELSIOR!!!
