For many people, Gandalf will always be Sir Ian McKellen. However, long before the much loved actor became the iconic wizard, J.R.R. Tolkien’s Gandalf had thrilled generations. There are other wizards, and no doubt will be, but there’s only one Gandalf. We feel Gandalf’s done enough to deserve a tribute from us. Here it is!
Gandalf’s Song
“A wizard”, he said, “is never late”,
so, for one, sometimes you must wait
With their magic, sublime,
they are worth extra time,
especially this one, who’s so great
He’s renowned for his grey, pointy hat
and brown pipe even longer than that
Gandalf’s tricks with his staff
make Bilbo and co. laugh,
as they all fall about where their sat!

Good old Gandalf! It’s thanks to Gandalf’s goodness that evil was kept bay. As well, of course, as the “small everyday deeds of ordinary folk”, and their “kindness and love” which he so highly valued. If you’ve a favorite Gandalf moment, drop us a comment, here at May The Verse Be With You. We’d love to hear from you! See you next week, for a spooky special!
