We’ll get a teenaged Peter Parker for the first time ever in a live-action movie. Plus Marvel has hired more women in the Captain Marvel Universe.
Young English actor, Tom Holland, will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the next ‘Spider-Man’ film and ‘Captain America: Civil War.’
The yet untitled Spider-Man movie, in theaters July 28, 2017, will be directed by Jon Watts, director of the upcoming ‘Cop Car.’
Holland has appeared in ‘The Impossible,’ ‘Wolf Hall,’ and the upcoming ‘In the Heart of the Sea.’ At age 19, he is closer in age to the teenage Peter Parker in the comics than the previous actors who have portrayed the friendly neighborhood web head.
Jon Bernthal (‘The Walking Dead’) has been cast as Frank Castle, The Punisher, for the second season of the Netflix series ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’
Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas, the showrunners for ‘Agent Carter,’ will take over as writers for ‘Captain Marvel’ in the Marvel Comics Universe.
The new series begins eight months into the narrative time after the end of ‘Secret Wars,’ and will change the status quo for most of the Marvel Universe’s characters and teams.
“Marvel really wanted us to design what her mission is within the universe,” says Fazekas. “We know what S.H.I.E.L.D.’s mission is, we know what the Avengers’ mission is, we know what ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’s’ mission is. So how does Captain Marvel fit into all that?”
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter
‘Agents of SHIELD’ returns Tuesday September 29th at 9 p.m.
‘Agent Carter is still held for midseason, with ten episodes, rather than eight as in the previous season. No word yet on how Agent Carter’s two extra episodes will effect the schedule for AoS.
Chiwetel Ejiofor will play Baron Mordo, an enemy of ‘Doctor Strange,’ in the Scott Derrickson-directed film that will star Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character.
According to reports, although he’s an enemy in the comics, Mordo will not necessarily a completely villainous character. Rather, he’ll be an amalgamation of characters culled from Doctor Strange‘s mythology.
This isn’t the only character Marvel will be altering from the comics. Both Strange and Mordo were mentored by The Ancient One, a Tibetan male sorcerer. In the film, Tilda Swinton will be playing the character.
