Legendary ‘Avenger’ Dame Diana Rigg Passes

Dame Diana Rigg became an Icon of the 1960s when she took on the role of Emma Peel in the UK genre series 'The Avengers'

Earlier today news broke about the sad passing of acclaimed and indeed legendary British Actress Dame Diana Rigg. Rigg’s daughter actress Rachael Stirling said she died of cancer, after being diagnosed in March.

“She spent her last months joyfully reflecting on her extraordinary life, full of love, laughter and a deep pride in her profession,” she added.

Dame Diana Rigg became an Icon of the 1960s when she took on the role of Emma Peel in the UK genre series ‘The Avengers’, which saw her star alongside the late Patrick Macnee. The series saw Rigg wear a number of highly fashionable catsuits for the series as the cheeky Emma Peel who would often outsmart the shows many villains alongside Steed in one of UK Televisions most Iconic Genre shows.

Off the strength of her performance in ‘The Avengers,’ the actress would go onto play the role of Tracy in the rather underrated James Bond film ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service‘. This proved to be a rather significant role because Tracy and James Bond marry at the close of the movie, which technically made Diana Rigg Mrs. Bond for a very short period of time before being killed in the closing moments of the film.

In her post ‘Avengers’ career. The actress would go on to star in many television series and movies across a broad range of genres. In recent years she has blown audiences away as the cunning and crafty Olenna Tyrell in the hit HBO series ‘Game of Thrones’. Which introduced the star to a whole new generation of fans.

Since finishing ‘Game of Thrones’ Rigg has gone on to play roles in the new version of ‘All Creatures Great And Small’, which currently airs on Channel 5 in the UK and on PBS in America. And she’d just wrapped work on a new TV mini-series ‘Black Narcissusas Mother Dorothea.

Diana Rigg was as close to British Acting Royalty as you can get having not only advanced the roles of women on film and television, but also for her attention to humanitarian causes.

Dame Diana Rigg will be greatly missed within the UK’s Entertainment Industry by fellow Thespians and fans.

We here at SciFiPulse pass on our deepest condolences to Dame Diana’s friends and family on what is a very sad day.
