Synopsis: In ‘Timeless’. After a devastating betrayal, Barry turns to Timeless Wells for help. Meanwhile, Iris leads Team Citizen down a dangerous road in search of answers, and Cisco confides his biggest fear to Kamilla.

The Story

This episode picks up moments from where last week’s left off. Nora aka The Speed Force has just killed The Strength Force after having tricked Barry and Iris into helping her find Alexa who was hosting the force. A shocked Barry and Iris react and express their horror at Nora’s actions. Nora pleads with Barry and Iris to help her destroy the remaining two forces. The Still Force and The Sage Force. But Barry and Iris refuse. At this point. Nora reveals that Barry and Iris helped bring life to the other Forces when they recreated the Speed Force. So they are responsible.

This new information gives Barry an idea. That he can get Harrison Walls aka Timeless Wells help to travel back in time. And uncreate the forces at the very moment that they were born. Iris disagrees with the idea. She wants to try and reason with them and help them be their best selves. This causes Barry and Iris to go their separate ways. Iris tries to find Nora and reason with her. While Barry moves ahead with his plan with some reluctant help from his friends.

The Acting

Michelle Harrison puts in a strong performance at the start of the episode as she reveals her hatred for the other forces. The moment where she tells Barry and Iris that they are responsible is huge and creates the basis for the episode’s ethical dilemma. After all. Barry and Iris are sort of the parents to the Forces. So it is up to them to decide their fate. Grant Gustin and Candice Patton do a decent job of conveying their respective arguments as Barry and Nora are at cross purposes. Iris taking on the nurturing mother role while Barry is the driven father. The scene that Iris has with Psyche where she is told by the hallucination of Nora that she will never measure up was fantastic. It was an intriguing look into Iris’s psyche.

It was also brilliant to see Tom Cavanagh return for perhaps one of his final appearances as Harrison Wells.

Overall

‘Timeless’ is an interesting episode that explores a number of themes. One theme being what to do if you find yourself being the parents of literal godlike beings. As yet no absolute right or wrong answer. But Joe’s conversation with Barry about continuing to try was really good.

The episode also sows the seeds for Cisco’s departure from the show. As he and Kamilla decide that they both need to leave Central City so that they can have a life together.
