Mxyzptlk returns with a proposition for Kara

Synopsis: Mxyzptlk returns with a proposition for Kara—what if she could go back in time and tell Lena her secret before Lex did, would things turn out different?

Review: Supergirl delivers a somewhat lighthearted episode this week in which she is given a chance to save her friendship with Lena.

The Story

When Mxyzptlk gives Supergirl a chance to save her friendship with Lena Luther with some 5th-dimensional time travel shenanigans. Supergirl leaps at the chance but finds that in pretty much every scenario. Things wind up being worse than they are in the present.

The Acting

Thomas Lennon is a force of nature with his portrayal of Mxyzptlk and puts everything out there. Most of his scenes with Supergirl are nicely done and he finds the right balance of comedy and drama with what he is given. Also great were Melissa Benoist and Katie McGrath in their roles of Supergirl and Lena Luther respectively. McGrath was given a lot to play within this episode and the final scene they have together is really earned by the time the story draws to its conclusion.

This was a fun-filled episode, which allowed for the return of many characters from the shows 5 seasons to date. And given that it was the 100th episode. It really dug deep to bring us some of the show’s finest moments, but with a slight reinterpretation. Like many fans. I really enjoyed seeing Odette Annable return as Samantha Arias and Reign. But it was also good to see Chris Wood make a return as Mon-El.

Overall. A solid episode, which dove into 5 years of the show’s mythology and brought a different perspective to Supergirls past adventures through the device of Kara picking various moments throughout the show’s timeline to tell Lena the truth about her being Supergirl. The final moment where Supergirl tells Lena that she will have to be accountable for her own actions was nicely done and has been a long time in coming. I only hope that the two can make up at some stage because I much prefer Lena being on the same side as Supergirl and the DEO if truth be told.
