Eclipso unleashes the final part of his master plan, Courtney, Pat, and the JSA band together to take him down once and for all.

Synopsis: In Chapter Thirteen. Eclipso unleashes the final part of his master plan, Courtney, Pat, and the JSA band together to take him down once and for all.

The Story

Picking up from where last week left off. Eclipso has managed to lure Beth and the original Dr. Mid-Nite to JSA Headquarters. Meanwhile, Courtney and the other members are making their way to confront the evil one. Eclipso’s plan is to open a doorway to Shadowland and use Courtney’s hatred toward him to engulf our entire world. But before he does that he has to get past an onslaught of attacks from Courtney’s team as they finally come together to give Eclipso a good old-fashioned beat down.

However, it is going to take help from an original JSA team member to give Courtney the extra juice she needs to beat Eclipso.

The Acting

In terms of the acting for this episode. All the gongs belong to the villains. Sure the Heroes did well too, but the villains got all the best dialogue. Young Milo Stein once again gives an extremely mature performance as young Bruce, who Eclipso uses as his avatar. The scenes where Bruce is taunting Beth and Dr. Mid-Nite are absolutely brilliant. Stein delivers his dialogue with the right amount of venom and is very believable.

Likewise, Nick Tarabay delivers one hell of a final performance as Eclipso makes his final desperate stand. The scene where he pushes Courtney into admitting that she hates him was brilliantly executed and pretty powerful.

We also see a return for Jonathan Cake as The Shade who returns via the portal that Eclipso opens up. This was not really all that surprising given that his death a few episodes back always seemed a little too good to be true.

Chapter Thirteen does a great job of wrapping up this story arc and also takes a little time out at the end to set up a few elements for next year’s story arc. One of them is Cindy Burman asking if she can join the JSA. If that actually happens. It will make for some interesting character moments given that Cindy and Courtney’s philosophy on things is going to clash.
