Tensions rise among the JSA members after Courtney suggests who she wants to recruit next to the team

Synopsis: Tensions rise among the JSA members after Courtney suggests who she wants to recruit next to the team. Meanwhile, Henry, Jr. makes a surprising discovery about his father.

The Story

This episode picks up from where last week left off. After having had a run-in with Shiv, Henry King Jr. is beginning to learn about his powers and finds an archive of VHS tapes that his father recorded when he was learning about his Brainwave powers. When hears his father’s voice calling to him. Henry rushes to the hospital to go see him and find out if he can help bring his father back to consciousness.

Meanwhile, Courtney and Pat hold a brief meeting in which they talk about who else they can recruit into the JSA. When Courtney suggests that the try to bring Henry King Jr onto the team Yolanda is understandably against the idea given how she was betrayed by Henry.

The Acting

Jake Austin Walker puts in a brilliant performance as we see Henry King Jr. learn about his newfound brainwave powers. The scenes where he is hearing peoples thoughts for the first time are acted out brilliantly, but the scene of the episode has to be when Courtney pays him a visit and tries to convince Henry that he needs to go deeper when reading peoples thoughts and tells him that all he is getting is what is on the surface. Brec Bassinger does a great job with this scene and plays well off of Austin Walker’s reactions.

We also get a great scene where Jordan Mahkent (Icicle) and his family have dinner with Courtney’s family and there is a great moment where Courtney figures out that Mahkent may well be Icicle. But its the moment where Jordan and his family leaves that gives you the chills.

This was a solid episode in which we learn a bit more about the mythology of this world. I particularly enjoyed hearing Pat talk about the team that he was in prior to the JSA and how they managed to foil one of Dragan King’s plots, but never got credit for it. I also enjoyed the reveal about the origin of the secret passageways that are under the town.

Overall. This series is shaping up well and each episode is a little something that I definitely look forward too watching.
