The High Republic

Synopsis: This month on ‘The High Republic’. The NIHIL strike! A ship found adrift in space, the crew brutally slaughtered and cargo stolen. What terror awaits the THE JEDI OF STARLIGHT BEACON as they explore the wreck? Newly knighted KEEVE TRENNIS must overcome her insecurity in the face of new teammates, but can she trust her closest ally?

The Story

Having qualified as a Jedi in the first issue. Keeve Trennis is sent on her first mission under the command of her mentor. But something is off with Sskeer. Additionally, Keeve feels a little insecure in the presence of fellow Jedi Ceret and Terec who are twins that share a deep connection. While investigating a derelict cargo ship. They find dead Hutt and his people who have been gassed and slaughtered by the Nihil. Pretty soon they are all attacked by an abandoned Nihil who Sskeer takes out with little mercy.

In order to further their investigation. Sskeer is sent to a nearby colony with Ceret. But when Ceret goes off on his own. Something terrible happens.

The Artwork

Ario Anindito does some pretty good work for this issue. I particularly liked the panels on board the ship where they find the Hutt and his party of fellow scoundrels all dead. Though the artwork on the planet seemed to be rather boring and not particularly eye-catching. Just looked like an average farming world. Character drawing continues to be okay-ish. I’m still rather liking the character drawing of Sskeer.

Overall

This second issue is a slight improvement on the opening chapter of ‘The High Republic’ and sees a bit of character development for Keeve as well as further development for Sskeer. That said. I wasn’t especially a fan of Ceret and Terec insofar as both characters seemed to be a bit up themselves and not particularly likable. Hopefully, that is something that improves in future issues.

Overall though. I’m still not especially invested in this story or these characters.
