Synopsis: In Whispers in the Unknown & Pride and Vengeance, Maul’s plans come together, Devon considers her options. Lawson’s investigation intensifies.

The Story

Picking up from where last week’s premiere left off, Devon manages to use the Force to escape her prison, only to be immediately confronted by Maul’s people. They gesture for her to meet him.

Over the course of their conversation, Maul attempts to persuade Devon to reconsider her options, arguing that the Jedi Order is no more. He leans heavily into manipulation and persuasion, but to no avail. Devon stands firm, choosing to fight. Her understanding of Maul is the same as any Jedi’s: he is not to be trifled with.

Elsewhere, Master Eeko-Dio Daki visits Captain Lawson at his son’s sports game, which makes for an interestingly grounded contrast to the larger conflict. Daki presses Lawson for information on Devon, but Lawson refuses, citing the nature of the investigation. In response, Daki offers a pointed warning about Maul and just how dangerous he truly is.

Meanwhile, Devon manages to escape Maul, though it quickly becomes clear this is by design. Maul allows her to go, knowing she will lead him back to her Master. With that, he temporarily sets aside his interest in Devon and turns his attention to another mission.

After releasing Vario from his cell, Maul travels with him to the Pykes’ planet, where they swiftly eliminate its leader, reinforcing Maul’s growing influence and ruthlessness.

Back on Janix, Lawson receives a tip on Maul’s whereabouts from Devon and Daki and immediately begins assembling an operation to capture the Shadow Lord. However, he is warned that this will be his final opportunity to bring Maul in.

Suffice to say, the operation does not go well.

Another lightsaber duel breaks out between Maul, Daki, and Devon, but once again Maul proves the superior combatant, leaving Daki seriously injured. The two Jedi are forced to retreat into the shadows to avoid detection.

As reinforcements arrive to support Lawson’s mission, the situation escalates dramatically with the arrival of the Empire. The episode closes on a striking visual, as a massive Star Destroyer looms over the planet’s skyline.

Voice Acting

Gideon Adlon puts in a solid performance here, with several standout scenes opposite Maul, who is voiced brilliantly by Sam Witwer. Their exchanges are a real highlight of the third episode, particularly the moment where Maul attempts to persuade Devon to reconsider her position, even going so far as to frame himself as something other than the villain she was taught about at the Jedi Academy.

There’s a quiet tension running through those scenes that works really well, largely because Devon never fully buys what he’s selling.

I also enjoyed the brief interaction where Master Eeko-Dio Daki (Dennis Haysbert) approaches Lawson (Wagner Moura) about Devon. It’s a short scene, but it adds weight to the wider situation and reinforces how many moving parts are in play.

The later moments between Devon and Daki, when they finally reconnect, do a great job of highlighting the bond between Master and apprentice. There’s a sense of history and trust there that gives the relationship real emotional grounding.

Overall

These two episodes do a solid job of building on the story. The two lightsaber duels are, as you’d expect, a real treat for action fans, but it’s the quieter moments that linger a little longer—particularly toward the end, where Devon helps her Master to safety. There’s a softness to those scenes that balances out the chaos elsewhere.

We’re left with a cracking cliffhanger as a Star Destroyer looms into view, signalling the arrival of the Empire and a significant escalation in stakes.

It also raises an interesting question: could we be seeing cameos from established Star Wars villains like Darth Vader or Emperor Palpatine in the coming weeks?
