The Story
Make It Stop
Luthen’s ISB informant, Lonni Jung, arranges a final meeting to pass on intel about the Empire’s plan to build a superweapon. He warns Luthen that he’s been compromised and it’s only a matter of time before the ISB catch up with him. Realising their time is running out, Luthen instructs his assistant Kleya to go to the safehouse and get a message out to the Rebel base on Yavin.
While Kleya departs on her mission, Luthen begins destroying evidence of his activities. That’s when Supervisor Dedra Meero catches up with him. To avoid interrogation and protect his sources, Luthen stabs himself through the heart with a ceremonial knife. Meero orders immediate medical attention, but before anything can be extracted from him, she’s arrested by the ISB for failing to capture Luthen alive.
Watching from a distance, Kleya tails the ISB and carries out a daring covert operation—ensuring Luthen doesn’t survive and the Empire gains nothing.
Who Else Knows
In the wake of Kleya’s hospital mission to kill Luthen, the ISB scrambles to determine how she gained access—and how she escaped unnoticed. Supervisor Heert turns to the disgraced Dedra Meero for insight, asking how the rebels have been communicating without triggering ISB surveillance. She reveals they’ve been using outdated communications tech that’s no longer monitored.
Armed with this knowledge, Heert intensifies the search and manages to trace Kleya’s location. Meanwhile, on Yavin, Andor receives her message and launches an unauthorized rescue mission with K-2SO. He arrives just in time to reach Kleya—but the ISB and Heert are close behind.
Jedha, Kyber, Erso
In the season finale, everything comes to a head as Cassian and Kleya are cornered by Heert and his ISB soldiers. Their only hope lies in K-2SO’s unpredictability, as he pulls off a daring last-minute rescue. With Andor and Kleya back on the run, the Empire is forced to accelerate construction of the Death Star.
Upon returning to Yavin, Andor briefs the Rebel Council on the Empire’s superweapon and Galen Erso’s involvement. But the Council dismisses it as another of Luthen’s paranoid delusions and place Andor under confinement. Silently disagreeing, Mon Mothma enlists a trusted ally to discreetly question Andor and verify his intel. This quiet intervention turns the tide, and Andor is sent on the covert mission that leads directly into Rogue One.
The Acting
Stellan Skarsgård delivers a brilliant performance as Luthen, portraying a man finally starting to unravel under the extreme pressure of running covert operations, but just about managing to hold it together long enough to execute his final mission. The scene where Dedra Meero catches up with him is expertly played, with Denise Gough delivering Meero’s smug dialogue as she believes she’s completed her mission. But she fails to anticipate just how far Luthen is willing to go, and she’s genuinely shocked when he attempts to take his own life.
Elizabeth Dulau also shines as Kleya, fully convincing us of her unwavering commitment to Luthen. Through powerful flashbacks, we see how Luthen and Kleya first met and how their small acts of sabotage eventually grew into a full-blown rebellion. As the series wraps up, Diego Luna delivers a standout performance as Cassian Andor, finally accepting his pivotal role in the Rebellion and realizing that any future with Bix is impossible until the Empire is brought down.
Overall
These final three episodes are tightly written and do an excellent job of wrapping up the key character and story arcs, all while building seamlessly toward the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story—which this reviewer will be rewatching at the earliest opportunity.
