In Review: Nancy Drew & The Hardy Boys: The Death of Nancy Drew #6

Synopsis: WHO TRIED TO KILL NANCY DREW? WHO STILL WANTS HER DEAD? This final issue of the much-talked-about series will finally unveil the mastermind behind Nancy’s attempted murder… but will it lead to one of the Hardy brothers deaths?

The Story

Nancy’s investigation continues to move forward as she and the Hardy boys learn that it was the heads of the crime syndicate that tried to have her killed. Or was it someone else entirely. Nancy’s investigation continues to hit a few twists and turns as the gang reaches the endpoint and finds the killer. A killer that has been hiding in plain sight all along.

The Artwork

Joe Eisma retains the vibe of a detective noir story and totally sets the mood. I really enjoyed the sequence of panels where Nancy confronts her father, which eventually leads her to the true killer. We also get a nice series of panels at the start of the comic in which we see a flashback sequence where a five-year-old Nancy solves her first crime. The real highlight though is the reveal at the end as Nancy learns the identity of her would-be killer.

Anthony Del Col manages to give readers a satisfying conclusion to what has been a wonderful mystery story that has seen Nancy find her own killer. The dialogue between the main group of characters remained believable. I loved the opening of this issue where Nancy shares the memory of the first case that she cracked in which her mother helped her find the real culprit. This was nicely bookended by the series of panels where Nancy is visiting her mother’s grave at the close of the story.

Overall. This has been a great series with a satisfying mystery that has had enough twists and turns to keep us guessing all the way through. It really kept you guessing and the revelation of the real killer was a total surprise.
