Synopsis: In The Gambit of the Tangled Souls. While Nancy and the Drew Crew race to find the relic that could finally untangle George’s soul from Odette Lamar’s, Carson and Ryan are affected by a mystical substance that prompts a temporary return to the lowered inhibitions of adolescence.

The Story

After a few weeks of quite serious storylines. This week’s story offers up a nice balance between comedy and drama. While helping Nancy obtain the Soul Splitter Carson and Ryan accidentally inhale a substance that regresses them to teenagers. And while this may be a lot of fun for Carson and Ryan. It turns out to be a bit of a pain for Nancy and the others because while engrossed in their teenage hijinks. Carson and Ryan have managed to misplace the Soul Splitter. So, in a race against time. Nancy and Ace must chaperone Ryan and Carson around until they find the soul splitter and the effects of the substance wears off.

Elsewhere, Nick has a deep discussion with Addy Soctomah, which looks like it may have repercussions on Nick’s future in Horseshoe Bay.

The Acting

Riley Smith and Scott Wolf get to have tons of fun as they show us what Ryan Hudson and Carson Drew were probably like when they were teenagers. It falls somewhere between Bill and Ted and Waynes World. The scene of them playing guitars and drums in their bedroom version of a Rock Band was hilarious. All that was missing really was a decent moshing session in the car.

We also get a fantastic performance from Maddison Jaizani as we see Beth have some problems when it comes to letting the soul of Odette Lamar go.

Overall

After having had some quite dramatic episodes in recent weeks. This episode proved to be a breath of fresh air. They really need to produce an Odd Couple spin-off series involving Carson Drew and Ryan Hudson as the comedy timing between those two characters is hilarious.

The Gambit of the Tangled Souls mixes comedy and drama rather nicely. I really appreciated Bess’s storyline with regards to Odette getting some closure. As well as seeing Nick have a pretty deep discussion with Bess’s new love interest about finding oneself after having dealt with tragic events.
