In Review: Nancy Drew (S3 – EP2) The Journey of the Dangerous Mind

Synopsis: The Journey of the Dangerous Mind sees Nancy and the crew investigates the Frozen Heart murders. Sparks fly between Nancy and her counterpart in law enforcement on Nancy’s first day as the Community Liaison.  Temperance makes a startling offer at the police station.

The Story

Continuing her investigation into the Frozen Heart murders. Nancy gets some unexpected help from Temperance who uses a magic spell on Nancy called a memory weave. Luckily the spell works and gives Nancy her first lead. In order to follow up on it and beat the police to the scene. Nancy tricks Ryan into driving her to the scene. As she enters the home of the killer she finds herself in danger when she triggers a complex trap that the killer has left behind.

Elsewhere, Beth is trying to learn magic and has cast a protection spell on Ace, which has gone a bit wrong. Temperance offers to teach Beth how to use magic.

The Acting

Kennedy McMann puts in a solid performance and has some fun scenes with John Harlan Kim as Nancy and the new FBI Profiler gain a bit of mutual respect for each other. We also get more fun scenes from Bo Martynowska as Temperance who in this episode helps Nancy out and begins to teach Beth how to use magic.

Overall

A fun episode, which builds on the mystery, which was introduced in last week’s episode. We also get a chance to have some fun scenes as Georgie loses her engagement ring and works hard to hide the fact that she has lost it from Ned. Added to that we also meet the Bobbsey father who has been reliant on Ace’s kind nature. Indeed, in the last scene where we see him, he is running away from a crime scene with blood on his hands. Might he know something about the murders or is it something else that he is involved in?

Overall The Journey of the Dangerous Mind offers up more questions than answers. But it will likely be a lot of fun to find the answers in the weeks to come.
