In Review: Nancy Drew (S3 – EP13) The Ransom of the Forsaken Soul

This season finale leaves things at a huge crossroads for all the key characters.

Synopsis: The fate of Horseshoe Bay rests in the hands of the Drew Crew, who must find a way to defeat their most powerful nemesis yet. Lives and hearts are in supernatural jeopardy – and a star-crossed choice will change everything, forever.

The Story

Picking up from last week. This series finale sees Nancy and the Drew crew looking to put an end to Temperance Hudson and her plans. Stopping her is the easy part. The not-so-easy part is the amount of sacrifice that it will take on Nacy’s part and how it will affect the relationships and future lives of her friends. In order to separate the fourth piece of Charity Hudson’s soul from Ace using the Soul Splitter. The plan was to put the fragment of Charity’s soul into Temperance in the hopes that the Frozen Hearts Killer would get her. But it would seem that Temperance had planned ahead.

By the end of the episode. Nancy and her team have successfully defeated Temperance, but not without it costing them all somehow.

The Acting

Olivia Taylor Dudley is fantastic in this episode despite having very little screen time. I loved her scenes with Nancy (Kennedy McMann). Especially the scene after Nancy has killed her for the first time. The scene where Temperance reveals that Nancy has been experiencing an illusion of what will happen if she kills her. We also got some great scenes from all the different cast members as fate sees them all go off onto new paths. Leah Lewis’s George goes off to study Law, while Nick has plans to go home. The scene where George looks at the ring in the window of the jewelry store while her new mentor is talking her through some books that she needs to read was quite poignant.

This was a really solid season finale and was it not for the final scene where Nancy is summoned to a graveyard. The episode would have worked really well as a series finale. Especially with regards to how it left all the characters going off in their own directions. Hopefully, we will get to see more Nancy drew next year and we get to see our favorite characters again.
