Synopsis: In ‘The Secret of Solitary Scribe’. With time running out, Nancy and the Drew Crew come up with a plan that they think might help reverse the curse that the Aglaeca placed on them.
With time running out. Nancy and her Drew Crew continue to investigate ways of lifting the Aglaeca curse. And one clue leads them to acclaimed horror writer A.J. Crane who happens to be the only person to have survived the curse. However, Nancy soon learns that Crane’s survival came at a great cost to both his quality of life and his sanity. Crane has spent a lifetime trying to figure out ways of breaking the curse by all and any means.
Bess suggests to Nancy that perhaps returning the bones of Lucy Sable to the Aglaeca may lift the curse.
Peter Shinkoda puts in a brilliant performance as the reclusive and haunted writer A.J. Crane. His introductory scene is brilliantly done and I loved the various artifacts that adorned his cabin.
‘The Secret of Solitary Scribe’ also allowed some more character development for Ace and his deaf father. We get a brilliant scene in which Ace and his Dad celebrate Shabbat with Detective Tamura. In the scene, Tamura is going after Ace because he thinks that he stole the Skull from his office. The moment where Ace’s father stands up for his son and tells Tamura to get a warrant is brilliant. Alex Saxon nails it.
The episode ends with Nancy and her friends coming to the realization that they only have 48 hours left before the curse gets them. But there is still a hopeful note, which comes in the form of some sort of Jewish trap for evil spirits, which A.J. Crane was trying to build. Thankfully Nancy’s friend Ace knows what it is and just may be able to build it.
Overall. A pretty solid episode, which seems to be building toward some sort of conclusion for the Aglaeca curse story arc. Though with Covid 19 and all still being a bit of an issue. I am wondering just how many episodes we’ll get for this year’s series. Especially given that I do not think there is too much gas left in the Aglaeca Curse storyline.
