Unseen Specter

Synopsis: In ‘The Siege of the Unseen Specter‘. Nancy’s birthday dinner with Carson is cut short when Detective Tamura shows up with a warrant to arrest her for contempt of court. Meanwhile, George, Bess and Ace work together to summon up one of their ancestors to help locate Odette’s Englishwoman lover.

The Story

When Nancy is arrested for contempt of court and taken to the station by Detective Tamura. It triggers the presence of a hidden specter that is seeking justice Dolores Barrett. A young black woman who was murdered and forgotten about by the authorities. As the mystery unfolds. We learn that Nancy’s first case coincided with the date that Delores was killed and all the attention was on Nancy’s case. So Nancy, Detective Tamura, Nick, Ryan Hudson are all trapped in the station with a policewoman and a town politician who used to be a police officer. The question is. Who is the guilty party and what actually happened?

Meanwhile, back at the Claw. George, Bess, and Ace channel the spirit of George’s Aunt and ask her to search the spirit world for Odette’s English lover.

The Acting

Kennedy McMann and Tunji Kasim put in brilliant performances as Nancy and Nick. For Nancy, it’s a case that she feels needs solving. Whereas it’s more personal for Nick with him being a black man who has seen a lot of injustice. The scenes where Nancy is questioning everyone and going through the evidence are riddled with tension. But when it is all solved and Nancy gets justice for Dolores. We learn that it wasn’t just the two murderers who played a role in her death. As the chain of events leading up to her death saw her embarrassed, humiliated, and wrongfully targeted.

Camille Brereton does a pretty good job of playing Doloras in the flashback scenes. But I’d have liked to have seen them expanded upon a little so we could have got a better sense of who Doloras was. Whoever did the voice-over work for the unseen specter also deserves some credit.

Overall

The Siege of the Unseen Specter‘ tells a solid story about a miscarriage of justice behind a wall of media noise.
