Synopsis: In Beyond Logic. The team struggles to find a way out of Axis Mundi. Kentaro and Tim make an unexpected alliance.

The Story

Picking up from last week. Keiko has rescued her granddaughter Cate from a Titan in the Axis Mundi, which is also known as Hollow Earth. Pretty soon Keiko and Cate meet up with Lee Shaw and May, which means that Lee has to explain how different time passes in the Axis Mundi when compared to our Earth. Of course, Keiko is somewhat overwhelmed by all this information and the amount of time she has lost. But pretty soon Shaw and the team begin working on a way to get back to the surface of Earth so they can reconnect with Monarch.

Meanwhile, in 2015 Kentaro and his father Hiroshi Randa have a great deal to work out, but things soon change tac when Tim visits them with information that reveals Cate might still be alive. Pretty soon the three start working together to figure out how to go about getting her back, but without assistance from Monarch.

The Acting

Mari Yamamoto puts in a fantastic performance as a rather overwhelmed Keiko who has just learned that her son is still alive and she has grandchildren that she has never met. You see in the plot Kieko has only been in the Axis Mundi for 58 days, while a total of 53 years has passed on our version of The Earth. The scene where Kurt Russell in his role as the older version of Lee Shaw tells Kieko how much time has passed is brilliantly acted.

We also get some great performances from Ren Watabe and Takehiro Hira as Kentaro and Hiroshi Randa figure out their family problems and how Monarch and the Titans fits in with all of that.

Beyond Logic is a fairly solid season one finale and leaves things on a solid cliffhanger for the second season to pick up on although the twist at the end was fairly obvious for those who were paying attention.
