IN REVIEW: MACGYVER: SEASON 4 – Mac + Desi + Riley + Aubrey

Mac and Desi witness a murder...

Synopsis: A double date descends into chaos when Mac and Desi witness a murder in the back of the restaurant, and as they work to find the killer, Riley tries to keep the secret about her and her friends’ “day jobs” from her new boyfriend, Aubrey.

The Story

When Mac, Desi, Riley, and Aubrey go on a double date at a posh French restaurant, which Aubrey part-owns. Things soon go to chaos When Mac and Desi are unable to relax into a casual date and spot potential danger at every turn. Pretty soon their attention to detail gets them a run-in with the Triad when it becomes apparent that Aubrey has made a deal with the devil without knowing it.

Back at the Phoenix Foundation Maddie finds out that her worse fears with regards to her double and Codex are coming true.

The Acting

This somewhat comedic episode gives the actors a chance to show us their comedy skills and Lucas Till and Levy Tran do just that as they continue the on again off again relationship between MacGyver and Desi, which seems to spark up every time they are in a situation that gets their adrenalin going. The comedy in it is that they can’t seem to do a normal date. We get a great flash back at the start of the episode, which sees Mac and Desi on Holiday attempting to be normal tourists but failing miserably. Things only get a bit sparky between them when they find themselves in mortal danger.

Overall

Although the epilogue of this episode continues to work things forward with regards to the story arc involving Codex. The episode itself felt like a bit of a placeholder so the actors could have a bit of a breather by doing a somewhat lighter and more fun episode. All that said though. It does resolve the relationship issues that Riley has been having in regards to trying to keep her secret from Aubrey.

Overall. A fun story, but with very little in the way of story development for the overall series arc.
