Synopsis: When Lucifer’s mother, Charlotte (TRICIA HELFER), turns up at the scene of a grisly murder pleading innocence, Lucifer is hesitant to believe her tale.
Review: This week sees the introduction of Lucifer’s mother who is played with pretty good comedic effect by Tricia Helfer.
The episode sees Lucifer and Chloe working to clear her name of a murder.
Helfer is pretty convincing as Lucifer’s mum and watching her adapt to being in a human meat suit as she so aptly put it had its fun moments in spite of the comedy being pretty obvious and very much telegraphed.
I enjoyed Helfer’s interactions with Tom Ellis and we learn that it wasn’t Lucifer’s dad that exiled him to hell.
The funniest interactions for me were between Helfer and Lesley Ann-Brandt as the two femme fatales do battle with their bitch stares. The moment where Helfer’s Charlotte head butts Maze was probably the biggest laugh in the episode given that it was the only joke that wasn’t telegraphed.
Elsewhere in the episode we have Amenadiel having some issues of his own. Issues which see him apologising to Doctor Linda for having convinced her that he was a fellow professional. But more chilling is the fact that Amenadiel’s wings seem to be somewhat messed up.
‘Lucifer’ continues to walk the line between fluff television of the week and something to be taken half seriously. But this episode sees some seeds sawn for something potentially bigger, but sadly it will never be anywhere near as good as the comic book series that it is so loosely based on.
