Synopsis: In The Weenie, Hal’s visit to Sinestro has consequences. With the 48-hour deadline about to expire, John develops a new theory about the whereabouts of the Cosmic Hunter, which leads him and Hal to present their next plan to Sheriff Kane.
The Story
Picking up where Episode 2 left off, Hal visits Sinestro and asks his old mentor about the Hunter. He learns that Abin Sur—the Lantern from whom Hal inherited his Green Lantern ring—had been escorting a Hunter prisoner when he died, with Hal finding Abin Sur shortly afterwards.
Back on Earth, John is informed by Lianna, the Guardian, that Hal has breached protocol. The next time Hal gives John the ring, John must recite the oath, which will allow him to take over as Green Lantern. For some reason, though, John seems reluctant to do this.
When Hal reconnects with John, they discuss the Hunter, and John comes up with a theory that it is hiding inside William Macon’s compound. More specifically, he believes it is inside a building he calls the “weenie.” John explains that, in Disney theme parks, the weenie is a large landmark placed at the centre of the park to help guide guests around. Unfortunately, this particular weenie is extremely well guarded, meaning that John and Hal will have to go underneath it rather than over it and tunnel their way into the compound.
Before going ahead, they inform Sheriff Kane so that she can provide backup if anything goes wrong. Sure enough, the plan goes a bit tits up. John and Hal make it into the compound and discover all sorts of futuristic weapons, only to be captured by Macon’s men.
At this point, we learn that Macon was saved by the Hunter, who cured him of cancer, and that he has been protecting it ever since. Incidentally, the Hunter arrived at roughly the same time as Macon’s wife, Zoe, which leads John to suspect that she may actually be the Hunter.
By the time Hal reaches the same conclusion, he and John have been rescued by Sheriff Kane. Hal then orders John to contact the alien group searching for the Hunter and tell them to meet at the diner, which is where the episode ends.
The Acting
Kyle Chandler continues to do a solid job of carrying the series as Hal alongside Aaron Pierre as John. The chemistry between the two actors is fun to watch, and John’s lack of reaction to Hal’s digs makes it all the more amusing whenever Hal is being an arse.
We also get another strong performance from Laura Linney as Lianna. The scene in which Lianna tries to goad John into taking the ring from Hal is particularly effective. It exposes the fact that, although John wants the ring and despite his words to the contrary, he still regards Hal Jordan as a hero.
Ulrich Thomsen also puts in a solid turn as Sinestro, while the opening scene between him and Hal does a great job of setting the stage for the episode.
Overall
Overall, this was a solid episode that opened up a new lead in the mystery through John’s suspicions about Zoe. We got a nice balance of drama, comedy and action, while the digging machine that John manifests with the ring to get them into the compound was nicely rendered. Next week’s episode promises to be fun, as we’ll hopefully get a proper introduction to the Hunter.

I’m kind of hoping Alan Moore’s Green Lantern oath that was recited by a member of a species that had no concept of light is said or at least referenced in this show:
In loudest din/In hush profound/My ears hear evil’s slightest sound/Let those who toll out evil’s knell/Beware my power/The F sharp bell!
