Synopsis: After losing Althea’s car Clementine, Dennis turns to Nicky for help, leading them to uncover an auto theft ring in Chinatown. Elsewhere, when an argument about family causes Henry and Nicky to have their first real fight, Henry reluctantly reconnects with his estranged father.

The Story

With her cousin Mia still in the wind. Nicky enjoys a little downtime while her brother looks through Mia’s medical history to try and figure out what her next move will be. However, when Dennis loses Althea’s car, which she calls Clementine, Nicky gets drawn into an investigation, which leads to her uncovering an auto theft ring.

Elsewhere, after having his first fight with Nicky over his complicated family situation. Henry reconnects with his father and meets his father’s new girlfriend, but all is not as it seems.

The Acting

This week’s episode was very much filler material but allowed for Shannon Dang and Tony Chung to further develop the relationship between Althea and Dennis while adding a little comedy to the mix. This allows for a really nice moment at the end of the episode where Althea tells Dennis that she pretty much loves him because he isn’t perfect. Meanwhile, Olivia Liang gets a chance to fly solo without Henry as she helps Dennis find Clementine. This turns out to be a mission that enjoys a couple of twists.

In contrast to the car recovery storyline. Eddie Liu gets to take us on a bit of a deep dive into Henry’s issues with his father as the two meet up. Terry Chen fills the role of Henry’s dad and gets some really meaty scenes. But it is Chen’s final scene with his onscreen girlfriend that adds some interesting spice to this year’s series arc.

Special mention goes out to Briana Buckmaster who is of course best known for her role in Supernatural. Buckmaster who we interviewed a few years back for the podcast, provides her plentiful comedy talents to a rather small, but fun role.

Overall

While Clementine deviates a fair bit from the ongoing story arc. It manages to provide a fun-filled hour that adds a few little bits and pieces to the ongoing arc, which get revealed at the close of the episode. Also, it has to be said that The Kung Fu production team would do well to create a half-hour Sitcom centering on Althia and Dennis. As I am pretty sure it would be a hit.
