Synopsis: In ‘The Grand Design, the Anti-Vigilante Task Force intensifies its search for Daredevil and Bullseye.

The Story

Picking up from last week’s episode, Vanessa is rushed to hospital after the shard of glass lodged in her head. Naturally, Wilson Fisk is at her side, visibly shaken and struggling with the very real possibility that she may not survive. Even in this moment of personal crisis, the Mayor doesn’t switch off. He orders the head of his Task Force to double their efforts to capture both Daredevil and Bullseye — but insists they be taken alive.

Elsewhere in the hospital, BB Urich presses Daniel for an update. He confirms Vanessa is in critical condition, only for that information to hit the news minutes later, much to his frustration.

Meanwhile, Buck takes Daniel on an unexpected drive. Their conversation is tense, and it only escalates when Buck has him stop at a nearby store to purchase a chainsaw and a shovel. It’s a moment that leans heavily into dread, with Daniel clearly fearing he may not be making it back.

Back at the hospital, Vanessa undergoes surgery, and for a brief moment, it appears to be successful. These present-day scenes are intercut with flashbacks to when Wilson first met Vanessa, moments that gain added weight after she asks him to tell her a story before her condition worsens.

Across New York, Daredevil is seen helping a badly injured Bullseye, creating an uneasy alliance between two enemies.

Alongside this, we get further flashbacks to Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson in their early days working court-appointed cases. One case involves a friend of Foggy’s brother, who is accused of multiple crimes. The charges ultimately collapse due to a technicality involving mismatched address details, allowing Foggy to get the case thrown out — a decision that proves crucial, as Fisk has already placed a hit on the man.

In a defining character moment, Foggy uses the money he and Matt had been saving to start their own practice to help the man disappear and escape Fisk’s reach. Matt challenges him on it, but Foggy stands firm, arguing that sometimes compassion has to come first. It’s a point Matt doesn’t fight, quietly agreeing with the sentiment.

Back in the present, the fragile hope surrounding Vanessa doesn’t last. Her condition takes a turn for the worse, leaving Fisk facing the possibility of losing her entirely.

Acting

Charlie Cox is excellent throughout this episode, delivering a performance that balances physical intensity with emotional weight. His scenes as Daredevil, particularly alongside Bullseye, are some of the episode’s strongest. Watching the two navigate the backstreets of New York while evading Fisk’s Task Force creates a tense, uneasy partnership that’s as compelling as it is unpredictable.

The episode also leans heavily into its flashbacks, giving us some genuinely heartfelt moments between Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson. These scenes not only add emotional depth but also pave the way for Elden Henson to reprise the role, reminding us just how central Foggy is to Matt’s moral compass.

Equally strong are Vincent D’Onofrio and Ayelet Zurer as Wilson and Vanessa Fisk. D’Onofrio, in particular, captures the duality of Fisk beautifully here — a man who can command violence with ease, yet is completely undone by the potential loss of the one person who grounds him. Zurer brings a quiet strength to Vanessa, making her presence felt even in the episode’s most vulnerable moments.

Overall

This was a solid episode that uses its flashbacks effectively, giving newer viewers a clearer sense of the history behind Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, while rewarding long-time fans with the return of a much-loved character. It’s a smart balance of past and present, layering in emotional context without slowing the momentum of the main story.
