Synopsis: In ‘Knightfall’, worlds are about to collide! Winifred Bambera faces the greatest dilemma of her life.

Her lost beloved husband Ancelyn, is back. With his return, all hell is about to break loose.

Together, they face armies of darkness and the wrath of the mighty Queen Guinevere. Can the course of true love run smooth, just this once?

Review: “Battlefield” was my favourite Seventh Doctor story. Happily, it was also the favorite of this set’s writers.

Story

UNIT: Brave New World: Knightfall lovingly paid off classic Doctor Who and Big Finish storytelling. Bambera and Ancelyn were reunited, while legends were reveled in.

“Deep Water” by Georgia Cook started listeners off with twists on the Lady of the Lake. Cook took advantage of the different versions of the character to establish the threat level.

“Storm Over Albion” by Felicia Barker relied on a thrilling mix of Welsh and Norse mythology. Indeed, Barker crafted no-holds-barred world-building that let fly the dogs of war.

“Shining Armour” by Robert Valentine concluded with an Arthurian feast of a tale centered upon the costs of power and duty. More importantly, though, our heroes gained perspective on what mattered most.

Acting

The entire cast was superb. However, I must highlight three performances.

First, Genevieve Gaunt picked up where the late Jean Marsh left off. Throughout, she imbued Guinevere with the heightened menace and pathos the character required.

That said, the soundscape belonged to Angela Bruce and the late Marcus Gilbert. They were as invested as the writers and the listeners.

In addition to their performances, please listen to the Extra Interviews. Bruce and Gilbert talked about reprising their roles with genuine warmth and tenderness.

Gilbert also received a small dedication at the beginning of the box set. Moreover, there’s a longer memorial segment in the Extra Interviews.

Overall

Thank you, Big Finish. UNIT: Brave New World: Knightfall was everything I hoped for and more.
