Synopsis: Norton Folgate’s come from the 1950s to warn Torchwood it’s the end of the world. He might have a point – there’s an alien god wandering the city, and a sinister force manipulating events behind the scenes. Where are all the homeless people going? And why doesn’t it stop raining?
Review: With Torchwood: God Among Us, Part 2, writers Lou Morgan, Ash Darby, Tim Foley, and David Llewellyn penned The Empire Strikes Back of this story arc. In the process, they’ve given listeners master classes in internal logic and character realization. They’ve also finally connected certain dangling plot threads — demonstrating how Big Finish (like Norton Folgate) has been playing a long game.
Throughout stories involving a plane stuck in a time loop, homelessness, body swapping, and betrayal, an emotional chess game unfolded that put a marvelous cast and their characters through their paces. I have to give kudos to Tracy-Ann Oberman, Jonny Green, Tom Price, and Samuel Barnett. Their respective alter egos had the most intense arcs, and they played them to the hilt. I must also applaud David Warner and Jacqueline King. They were obviously having a brilliant time playing themes as old as time.
Torchwood: God Among Us, Part 3 will be available in June. I can’t wait to find out how this chess match plays out and where our heroes go from here.
