Synopsis: Jenny was made as a soldier, but she has a Time Lord’s heritage. That Time Lord is the Doctor.

Exploring the universe, Jenny found a friend – Noah. He’s a mystery boy from nowhere.

Together they’re ready to save planets, fight monsters, and save the day. What’s more, they’ll do all that with nothing but wit, instinct, and an awful lot of running.

Review: Regrettably, I can’t discuss the plot of Jenny – The Doctor’s Daughter Series 02: Still Running in any detail. Indeed, I would spoil the cliff-hanger ending of this box set. I’ll focus on other elements of the story telling instead.

Story

“Inside the Maldovarium” by Adrian Poynton is a marvelous journey through a den of iniquity. More than that, though, it’s a poignant story about debt and inheritance.

“Altered Status” by Christian Brassington and Matt Fitton pits Jenny and Noah against a classic Doctor Who villain. The story is excellent in itself. However, Brassington and Fitton truly excel at laying the foundation for the cliff-hanger.

“Calamity Jenny” by John Dorney is largely a palate cleanser. Although, I suspect Dorney may have planted a seed that will grow into a later MacGuffin. The story is a wonderful send up of the coincidental doppelgänger trope.

“Her Own Worst Enemy” by Lisa McMullin is backstory for the bounty hunter cyborg Colt-5000. Finally, listeners begin to hear why Big Finish put Siân Phillips inside the machine. This final installment is a performance showcase establishing a larger scope for storytelling.

Acting

Georgia Tennant and Sean Biggerstaff continue to bounce off each other with sparkling chemistry and perfect timing. I must also commend their top-notch supporting cast.

That said, there are two stand-out performances. First, Simon Fisher-Becker is everything listeners could want as Dorium Maldovar. Second, Siân Phillips commits to every layer of her role.

Overall

Thanks, again, Big Finish. You’ve left me wanting more. I can’t wait to hear how Jenny and Noah get out of this one.
