Synopsis: Geoffrey Beevers returns as the Decayed Master.

Across the canals and through the swirling balls of 18th century Venice, stories of Lupo’s genius fill the air. He is the greatest mask-maker in the Republic’s history.

The delicate brushwork of Lupo is legendary. However, Lupo has a dark past.

On a burned-sienna planet galaxies away, he made a pact. With that, Lupo also made an exceedingly powerful enemy.

Now, that enemy is coming. He is coming through the ancient, legendary “skiproads.”

The Master is coming to tear apart everything Lupo has built. He will unleash his nightmarish powers on the majestic floating city.

Review: In true Doctor Who fashion, Dark Gallifrey: The Decayed Master Part 2 served as both a prequel and a sequel. Along the way, listeners got a showcase for everything that makes the Master such a marvelous character.

Story

Writers Lauren Mooney and Stewart Pringle set themselves a challenge. They wanted to take maximum advantage of the immense scope of Doctor Who.

They succeeded admirably by giving us four different locations in time and space so far. Three of those were in this second installment alone.

Frankly, I’m torn as to which setting was my favorite. I adored the decadence of Venice, including the introduction of the Master’s “assistant.”

Although, I also appreciated the plot turnabout on the alien world. Mooney and Pringle imbued a well worn trope with imagination.

That said, I greatly enjoyed the gothic possibilities of the final location. It meant that the conclusion will likely serve as a tonal bookend with the first chapter.

Acting

As ever, the entire cast was wonderful. However, I must highlight two performers.

First, Big Finish newcomer Giles Abbott distinguished himself as Algrim. I can’t wait to hear more from him.

Among other things, Abbot was an excellent scene partner for Geoffrey Beevers. For his part, Beavers obviously relished the gleefully evil give and take with his costars.

Overall

Dark Gallifrey: The Decayed Master Part 2 set up next month’s finale perfectly. I can’t wait for the promised autumnal chill.

It’s always fun when the Doctor and the Master are shown as the inspiration behind real world myths and legends; or they know real world historical figures. Good review Raissa.

Thanks. The Doctor Who stories built around history and/or mythology have always been my favorite.
