Following the epic showdown at Easter's party, Mr. Wednesday continues his quest to pitch the case for war to the Old Gods

Synopsis: Following the epic showdown at Easter’s party, Mr. Wednesday continues his quest to pitch the case for war to the Old Gods; Mr. World plans revenge; Technical Boy goes on the hunt for Media.

Review: Season 2 blasts off in the immediate aftermath of where the first season left off.

The Story

Having taken a pretty bad beating by Easter and the old gods. The first episode starts off with Technical Boy and Mr. World driving at rapid speed to Eagle Rock in order to regroup. Mr. World goes into what looks like an old style bunker/war room, which is adorned with what resembles cold war technology. But before entering the complex he orders Technical Boy to find Media because she is an essential part of their battle plans.

Elsewhere, Shadow Moon, Mr. Wednesday, Mad Sweeney and Laura Moon are driving to Wisconsin for a meeting with the old gods. Wednesday has a sales pitch to make and he needs the help of Shadow Moon to make it. What none of them are counting on is the arrival of Bilquis who was not invited to the meeting.

The Acting

It goes without saying that Ian McShane owns the part of Mr. Wednesday and he continues to do so in this episode, but it’s Ricky Whittle that impresses this week with the speech that Shadow Moon makes to the assembled Gods in order to get them onside. Whittle delivers it beautifully.

Also impressive this week was Yetide Badaki as Bilquis who seems to have an agenda of her own. Whatever her plans are. I’m sure it is going to make for some entertaining scenes as the show progresses.

This was a very strong opening episode with some fun moments, stunning visuals and an awesome soundtrack.

I really loved the sequence involving the Merry Go Round and how that transitions into a journey into the mind of Mr. Wednesday where we see all the gods in their iconic forms.

We also get a fantastic closing few minutes where Mr. World manages to execute a sneak attack on the old Gods.

The war has very much begun.
