In Review: A Discovery Of Witches – Season One Episode 8

The supernatural romantic drama concludes its first season with much excitement.

Synopsis: With danger at every turn, Diana and Matthew are forced to run. But will they escape in time?

Review: The final episode of this first season offer much excitement and also begins to give us a few answers to the connection between the young Demon couple. Agatha and Diana.

The Story

Things get off to a brilliant start as Diana uses her fire magic in order to fend off Juliette and save Matthews life. From that point on it becomes all too real that Diana and Matthew are not likely to have any peace from their enemies so they form a congregation of their own consisting of Witches, Vampires, and Demons.

In Italy, Baldwin is doing his best to protect his brother and Diana but is having to deal with both Knox and Gerbert who along with Satu are plotting to get him out of the way.

In order to get away from their pursuers. Diana and Matthew make plans to do a time walk to 1590, which means that Diana has to take a crash course in how to use her magic to pull this off.

The Acting

Matthew Goode and Therese Palmer put in solid performances as they continue to sizzle with what can only be called a magical chemistry.

Also putting in solid performances this week are Trever Eve as Gerbert and Owen Teale as Peter Knox. The scene in which they try to vote and have Baldwin beheaded is filled with fantastic tension.

The CGI

This episode has an unbelievably cool bit of CGI at the very start when Diana uses her fire magic she fashions a Bow and Arrow with the flames and uses it to see off Juliette, who has injured Matthew fairly severely. The animation as she uses the flames to create and shoot the bow is quite a sight.

Overall

This was a fantastic episode, which ended up with me yelling at my television due to an awesome cliffhanger, which sets the stage for the shows second season, which will hopefully be as good as this first series.

All the actors brought their best game and the story threads that have been sowed throughout the series all start to come together as we make sense of this world.

I can’t wait for the second series. Bring it on. I must learn to do a time walk.
