Guardians of the Galaxy fact & fiction

Guardians of the Galaxy is the subject of a good deal of speculation, rumor and would be spoilers.

There are so many upcoming and amazing super hero movies from the studios responsible for delivering all of our favorite Marvel / DC properties that it can make any fan’s head spin, and along with all of this anticipation comes an incredible thirst for any and all spoilers, advanced details and images.

True to form the much anticipated second installment of Guardians of the Galaxy from Marvel Studios and the vision of James Gunn is not only slated for a May 2017 release, but also the subject of a good deal of speculation, rumor and would be spoilers.

These spoilers come from websites claiming credible and inside information as was recently the case with Heroic Hollywood who claimed that no less that four independent sources had confirmed the true identity of Starlord’s father, which after Luke Skywalker’s claim to father fame in the original Star Wars trilogy as well as potentially in the upcoming Force Awakens, is perhaps one the most sought after spoilers currently being insanely sought out.

Heroic Hollywood claimed that Starlord’s father was none other than the long dead Mar-Vell also known as Captain Marvel and then went into an entire story of exactly why this spoiler made perfect sense. Then fast forward to just a few days ago as the Guardians very own Bradley Cooper, who is the voice of Rocket Raccon seemed to let slip a huge spoiler by saying that none other than Thanos the mad Titan himself was actually Starlord’s dad.

Then James Gunn himself went on line to debunk all of the spoilers to date saying;

All right. From this moment on I’m going to stop commenting on any rumors surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, because, eventually, someone is going to come up with a spoiler that has some truth to it. That said, the rumors surrounding Quill’s parentage at the present moment are completely false, and aren’t even close to the truth. I don’t know how people come up with this stuff, but it certainly isn’t through legitimate sources.

Also, I get the desire to get “scoops” on character inclusion and casting choices, etc. But since when is a plot spoiler a “scoop”? Is this really what fandom wants to know? Plot details in movies ahead of time? I got in this business because I love movies, and I think most film journalists are the same way. And spoiling plot details doesn’t add to the enjoyment of the film-going experience.

So bravo to those folks out there who don’t partake in this sort of thing. But, as I said, eventually someone will actually spoil some detail of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. So this will be my last comment squelching a rumor until May 2017. But if you do pick up on some plot detail between now and then, be aware, A) They are likely full of shit, as has been everyone so far who has claimed to have had inside info, and B) We’re creating a film that doesn’t rely on plot twists to be an enjoyable experience. They’re only a very small part of what we’re cooking up for you.      James.

So even though we have all been subject to some crazy Guardians of the Galaxy spoilers these past days, here are some recent Guardians tid bits that  you can in fact count on that are straight from two of the franchises most loved actors, Vin Diesel who plays fan favorite Groot and Zoe Saldana who plays the beautiful and deadly Gamora.

In the first instance, Vin Diesel has indicated on facebook that he has indeed received his script for the second installment of GOTG and interestingly the script in fact came with a CD of songs which will be included in the soundtrack to the much anticipated sequel, saying that music is going to be a big part of the next film.

This is the only time I ever get a script that comes with a CD. I’m doing this live, while I’m literally on page 93. I can see why my son is so excited about this. James Gunn is such a great writer. I read the script and I go, ‘You’re a great director, and you’re this good a writer too?’ No wonder Marvel is so excited about what you’re doing. No wonder why Marvel can’t wait to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2. It’s one of those page-turners, you cannot put the script down. Dancing is such a big part of this Guardians of the Galaxy script.

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-3-Starhawk-674x1024While this may not reveal any great big spoilers for the GOTG movie, it is in fact quite a fun bit of pre-production news to feed the ravenous appetites of the franchises multitudes of fans. Within the very same vein, we also heard recent Twitter news from Zoe Saldana who plays the assassin turned heroine in GOTG who went even a step further by posting pre-production images of herself preparing for the upcoming Gamora role in the make up chair.

While filming is not set to begin until this February in Atlanta, the release date is tentatively scheduled for May 5, 2017, and it seems that cast of characters still includes Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora,  Vin Diesel as Groot, Dave Bautista as Drax and Bradley Cooper as Rocket Racoon, with a new actress being added to the cast of GOTG by the name of Pom Klementieff.

Interestingly, the speculation seems to be that Klementieff has been added to play the role of then newest Guardian team member, Mantis. While this is pure speculation it is in fact my personal opinion that Peter Quill’s father will be none other than an original member of the Guardians of the Galaxy from the comic universe known as Starhawk.
