MINNEAPOLIS (October 30, 2023) – FutureDude Entertainment, the premier source for captivating, independently-produced, future-focused adventure stories, launched a Kickstarter campaign on October 24th to help fund a novel based on the production company’s first major motion picture Persephone, a futuristic and realistic science-fiction adventure film set on the planet Proxima b, which orbits the nearest star. The Kickstarter campaign, which concludes November 14, met its $5,000 goal in 60 minutes and has already racked up five times that amount – more than $25,000 – to date.
FutureDude Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Jeffrey Morris is collaborating with New York Times bestselling sci-fi author Kevin J. Anderson on the novelization of the Persephone story. Anderson has published more than 170 books, 58 of which have been bestsellers, including numerous novels in the Star Wars, X-Files, and Dune universes. He serves as co-executive producer of the film.
“I’m blown away by the enthusiasm from our fans about this novel,” said Jeffrey Morris, CEO and writer/creative director, FutureDude Entertainment. “This Kickstarter allows us to put the final polish on the novel, which is already written. We wanted to bring the novel to fans while they wait for the film to conclude production and come to the big screen.”
Anderson’s WordFire Press originally published a limited run of 100 copies, numbered and signed by both authors to share with producers. Morris and Anderson then expanded that “prototype” book to be published for Kickstarter funders. This is Anderson’s first original science fiction novel in seven years.
The Kickstarter campaign features a number of exciting rewards, including the e-book, a Kevin & Jeffrey Intro Pack that includes e-books and a digital film download from their other projects, separate PERSEPHONE paperback, hardcover, audio and e-Book combos, and more. Actors Ming-Na Wen, Esai Morales, and Brianna Hildebrandt are attached as stars of the film. New Line Cinema veterans Jane Fleming and Mark Ordesky (The Lord Of The Rings) —co-founders of media company Court Five—join Executive Producer Cassian Elwes, veteran producer Anne Marie Gillen, and actor/producer Jorge Heredia as the lead producers on the film. Morris —who wrote the screenplay—is also producing, directing, and designing the production.
Production on Persephone has begun, with visual effects developed by Pixomondo. The production utilizes new LED Volume technology—currently used by Disney+ in its Star Wars series The Mandalorian. Makinarium, based in London, is constructing sets, props, and miniatures at Pinewood Studios which will be shipped to North America for filming. International distribution of the film is being handled by Highland Film Group.
