
‘Penny Dreadful’ will be getting a new member to its ever growing cast of monsters.
Joining ‘Penny Dreadful’ for its second season will be the infamous Dr. Jekyll who will be played by Shazad Latif who will most likely give us a new spin on the character.
While speaking to Digital Spy Latiff hinted at what this latest addition to the ‘Penny Dreadful’ universe will likely get up to.
“He’s mixed-race – his father was a Colonial military man for the Raj and his mother was a mistress.
The 28 year old actor who is best known for ‘Spooks’ revealed that he did a fair bit of research before getting the role on ‘Penny Dreadful’, which included binge watching the shows first two seasons.
“I just stayed up all night and watched 18 hours, back-to-back.
“I read the Robert Louis Stevenson novella – Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, which is actually fantastically modern and very dark – and then I spoke to one of the foremost experts on Robert Louis Stevenson…
“I also watched two of the old versions – the Spencer Tracy Hollywood version [from 1941] and then the Fredric Marsh Best Actor winner in 1931, like a German Expressionist version, and that was about it.”
‘Penny Dreadful’ returns to UK television later tonight at 10pm on Sky Atlantic and will show new episodes at that same time every Tuesday. The series got underway in the US last week.
