Synopsis: ‘Isle of Joy’ centers on the inaugural Black and White Ball, where Mayor Fisk tightens his grip on New York City, while Matt grapples with growing tensions in his relationship.
The Story
With Muse out of the picture, Mayor Fisk wastes no time getting back to business—his business—throwing an exclusive Black Tie event to celebrate the launch of his Red Hook project and further cement his grip on New York City. Knowing full well that Daredevil has returned to the streets, Fisk makes a quiet move behind the scenes: he contacts the prison service and arranges for Benjamin Poindexter to be released back into the general population, fully aware this will provoke Matt Murdock.
Still reeling from the brutal showdown between Muse and Daredevil, Heather—Matt’s new girlfriend—is struggling to come to terms with the violence she witnessed. She’s no fan of Daredevil, and that fact is beginning to cause friction between her and Matt. Tensions only rise when she receives an invitation to Fisk’s glamorous gala.
Meanwhile, Matt learns that Poindexter has requested to see him. Hoping to uncover who ordered the hit on his old friend Foggy, Matt visits the prison. But when Poindexter refuses to talk, Matt snaps—slamming Bullseye’s face into the table and storming out, leaving the villain bloodied and smiling.
As Matt prepares to attend the Black Tie event as Heather’s reluctant plus-one, Poindexter seizes his opportunity. During a routine visit to the prison doctor, he makes his move—and escapes.
Acting
‘Isle of Joy’ is packed with solid performances, but the standout moment is the tense prison scene where Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) tries to grill Poindexter (Wilson Bethel) for answers about the hit on his friend Foggy. The twisted grin Poindexter wears after having his face slammed into the table really sells the moment—it’s a chilling reminder of just how unhinged Bullseye truly is.
Overall
A pretty solid episode that deepens the tension surrounding Matt Murdock’s double life as Daredevil, cranking it up a notch. With Poindexter back on the streets, there’s no doubt things are about to escalate—especially since it’s clear Bullseye has a serious bone to pick with both Daredevil and Kingpin. The real question is: who will he target first, and how will the fallout play out?
