The analysis found that Toy Story 5 is overwhelmingly the top title which created the biggest stir on the social media platform X over the D23 weekend. The fifth instalment of the Pixar franchise was teased to hit theatres in the summer of 2026, but it is clear that fans were keen to express their excitement, with around 14,000 X posts made referencing the animated feature over the event weekend.

Despite filming having reportedly wrapped in 2022, the upcoming live-action remake, Snow White, has been given a release date of March 2025. The D23 reveal of the film’s trailer, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, sparked 9,760 X posts over the weekend, placing the film second in the ranking of the most talked-about announcements on X.

Third is the much-anticipated Zootopia 2, with the announcement that Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan will be joining the cast of the sequel, set to hit theatres in November of this year. Following the film’s showcase at D23 hosted by star Ginnifer Goodwin, there were a massive 7,100 X posts made referencing the upcoming animation.

According to the study’s findings, Mufasa: The Lion King was the fourth most exciting announcement at the event. This prequel to The Lion King, set to be released in December 2024, gained an estimated 6,870 X posts referencing the film after the new trailer was released at D23.

Rounding out the top five D23 title announcements which have sparked the most online interest is Moana 2. The sequel sparked an influx of fans sharing their excitement on X, with an estimated 6,440 posts popping up on X over the weekend.

A spokesperson for JeffBet commented on the findings: “D23 is one of the biggest events of the year for Disney fans and the excitement for what announcements could be made is like no other. The event promises the continuation of the magic for fans that has become synonymous with Disney and that the world of Disney, Pixar, and Marvel is only set to grow.

“For fans keen to share their excitement online, it allows them to connect with a community of Disney lovers, equally eager to share in their enthusiasm. Plus, the sheer volume of posts about the event provides a compelling insight into which titles are most anticipated by fans – with Toy Story 5 taking the top spot, highlighting that the title’s demand remains strong even 29 years on since the original’s release.”

Methodology: A Google analysis was conducted on each of the newly announced Disney titles from D23 2024 on the weekend of 9 August 2024. The volume of X posts related to each title was obtained by searching “site:x.com #[film title]” and identifying the number of Google results which appeared between 9 and 12 August, 2024. These results were then ranked to determine the most anticipated Disney titles based on social media interest.
