Anne Rice to bring the Vampire Chronicles to Television?

" much you want to see a Game of Thrones style faithful rendering of this material..."

Anne Rice recently made an amazing post on her facebook page. Anne Rice, for those of you who don’t know her, is the legendary author behind Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Chronicles….and…well, she’s written a lot of fiction. Seriously, just look up her bibliography here.vampire-chronicles

Did you look up her bibliography? You see what I mean? She’s written a lot.

Anyhow, in the facebook post Anne Rice reveals that “the theatrical rights to the Vampire Chronicles are once again in my hands, free and clear.”  In addition to now having control over the theatrical rights, Rice shared that “a television series of the highest quality is now my dream for Lestat, Louis, Armand, Marius and the entire tribe.”

Rice goes on to state that she and her son, Christopher Rice, “will be developing a pilot script and a detailed outline for an open ended series, faithfully presenting Lestat’s story as it is told in the books, complete with the many situations that readers expect to see. We will likely begin with The Vampire Lestat and move on from there.”

After saying that “television is where vampires belong” and writing how “over the years you all [the readers/fans] have told me how much you want to see a Game of Thrones style faithful rendering of this material.”

There is other stuff said and if you’re interested you should read the full facebook post. But in short, Anne Rice now has the rights to the Vampire Chronicles back and wants to work with her son to make a TV series in the vein of Game of Thrones.

So what do you all think of this? Are you disappointed that you won’t see another movie from the Vampire Chronicles?

Are you excited at the idea that the Vampire Chronicles might become a TV show? And if you are excited about this idea, what are your hopes for the series?
