Director Roar Uthaug has found the perfect actress to play the new Lara Croft in the pending ‘Tomb Raider’ reboot.
Alicia Vikander was revealed yesterday to be the actress that will take over the part from Angelina Jolie in the rebooted movie franchise, which is based on the iconic video game series.
The new movie series, which is to be helmed by Roar Uthang will follow a similar path than the recent video games in that it will present movie fans with an as yet young and untested version of Lara Croft on her first adventure.
MGM and Warner Bros are co-producing the film with MGM overseeing production. They acquired the rights from GK Films who had previously purchased the film rights in 2011 from Square Enix Ltd.
Graham King is serving as producer.
Angelina Jolie famously plays the role in two movies , 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. It was those films that presented Angelina Jolie as a bankable franchise carrying star.
Vikander who won an Academy Award for her role in ‘The Danish Girl’ is hoping that her portrayal of Lara Croft will give her a similar path.
Last year was a huge for Vikander due to her roles in ‘Man From Uncle’ and ‘Ex Machina’. She can be seen this year in the drama ‘The Light Between Oceans’ as well as the Matt Damon action movie ‘Jason Bourne.’
