Synopsis: The search for Dayna has led the crew of the Liberator half way across the galaxy, but now Avon knows why she left them. He knows where she went. He knows what she was looking for.
But can he find his missing crewmate before it is too late?
The answers lie on a planet called Appallon Five – but so does danger and betrayal.
Review: The search for Dayna concluded when the crew of the Liberator track her to a planet, which turns out to be where Dayna’s mother has been all along, but nothing is as it seems.
This was a hugely satisfying conclusion to an ongoing series, which has seen the crews quest to find their fellow ship mate on a number of misadventures and side steps.
In fact the seeds where very cleverly sewn throughout the other episodes, which is all down to some clever storytelling.
The secret base, which the crew must navigate to find their friend is captured brilliantly, with some fantastic sound word and great acting from from the guest cast, which is relatively small. Nigel Carrington is brilliant in his role as Dayna’s captor. And he shares some fantastic dialogue with Michael Keating in one of the stories funnier moments, which works beautifully to alleviate some of the tension, which this story is full of.
I really hope that Carrington’s character is some how able to make a return at some later time in these Blake’s 7 audios. I loved his moments in this story.
Alastair Lock’s sound work in this story puts the listener exactly where they need to be and once again Lisa Bowerman’s capable direction allows the scenes to develop at a sensible pace and gives the actors just enough freedom to bring their A game to the story.
The closing few acts of this story are some of the most touching you will hear in an audio adventure. Even I had a lump in my throat and I’m not that easily moved.
My once niggle is that we did not get a scene of the crew speaking with Dayna at the end of the episode. She was just left to recover in the medical centre on liberator.

A scene with Dayna would have meant paying Josette Simon for a cameo – would have been nice to hear her though!
I could have worded that better.
I was thinking more along the lines of what you said in that it would have been nice to hear Dayna, given that the whole season has been about them trying to find her.
This has been my favourite episode to date. I love what having Del Grant as a crew member has added. His scenes with Vila are a joy. My only quibble is that Cally has been reduced to a bit of a tactical idiot. She sounds so young and innocent, not the fairly seasoned, fanatical revolutionary I first met, often used to explain plot points through her bright little questions. I really enjoyed the crew banter and dynamics which just flowed so easily. And poor Dayna’s mum. What a lovely actress and memorable death scene. Even Avon seemed to warm to her. Such a shame she died.
