Synopsis: In Chasing Squirrels, The Creature Commandos return home in hopes of understanding Circe’s motivations. While his lawyer tries to coax him for answers, Weasel reflects on the events that landed him in Belle Reve in the first place.
The Story
After successfully protecting Princess Ilana Rostovic in the previous episode, Amanda Waller is determined to uncover Circe’s motives for targeting the Princess. Meanwhile, Weasel reflects on the day he was captured and sent to Belle Reve—only to receive an unexpected visit from his lawyer.
Elsewhere, Frankenstein attacks Rick Flag, mistakenly believing Flag is romantically involved with The Bride. At the same time, The Bride, Dr. Mazursky, and Weasel are dispatched on a new mission: to eliminate Princess Rostovic after shocking revelations about her come to light.
The Voice Acting
This episode delivers some great performances. Anya Chalotra shines as Circe, completely selling the intensity of her interrogation by Waller. But, as expected, the tables turn quickly when Circe manages to wield a bit of her power.
Frank Grillo and David Harbour bring plenty of humor, with Harbour’s love-struck Frankenstein passionately waxing poetic about The Bride while bonding with Grillo’s Rick Flag over his feelings for the Princess.
Overall
This was another solid episode that reveals the heartbreaking truth about how Weasel ended up in Belle Reve. In the closing moments, we get a brief flashback of Weasel playing joyfully with a group of kids, but the scene takes a dark turn when a man with a shotgun mistakes him for a monster and calls the authorities.
After the flashback, there’s a quick exchange between The Bride and Dr. Mazursky, where The Bride quips that Weasel is probably dreaming about chasing squirrels—a nod to the episode’s title.
Overall, it’s another strong installment that pushes the story forward while weaving in another origin story for the Creature Commandos. I can’t wait to see what next week’s episode has in store.
