In Review: Big Finish: Jenny – The Doctor’s Daughter Series 03: Saving Time

Synopsis: Jenny was created from the Doctor’s template. So, it’s no wonder she finds herself in a lot of trouble.

Exploring the universe with mysterious Noah, they’ve escaped the mercenary hunting them. Unfortunately, they’ve wrecked the timelines in the process.

Now Jenny must find a way to save herself, her friend, and time itself.

Review: Jenny – The Doctor’s Daughter Series 03: Saving Time brought the introductory story arc to a close. In the process, our heroes were transported into darkly whimsical adventures.

Story

The four tales in this set continue with a lighter tone meant for younger audiences. In many ways, this range picked up where The Sarah Jane Adventures left off.

“Florence O’Connor and the Sandwich of Doom” by John Dorney resolved the cliffhanger in the most unexpectedly adorable way. Think The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy meets The Wind in the Willows. I would adore more tales with The Margosia please.

“Beginner’s Guide to Monsters (and How to Slay Them)” by Rochana Patel centered around an overly ambitious monk, a Bestiary, and faith in nature.

The story was like a cyberpunk twist on Umberto Eco, but Patel gave listeners a more life-affirming experience.

“Genesis of the Humans” by Adrian Poynton finally gave us Noah’s origin story. What’s more, his story unfolded in a marvelous Fantastic Voyage homage.

Moreover, Poynton treated listeners to the return of fan-favorite character from Doctor Who. Indeed, the character beats in this tale justified this box set alone.

“Reboot” by Lizzie Hopley introduced the Big Bad of this initial arc. In the process, Hopley sent up billionaire supervillains.

Additionally, the installment culminated in significant character and thematic realization. The writers now have lovely new paths to explore.

Acting

As ever, the entire cast was brilliant. That said, the story belonged to Georgia Tennant and Sean Biggerstaff. Their chemistry and timing were perfection throughout.

Overall

Jenny – The Doctor’s Daughter Series 03: Saving Time served as an excellent ending and beginning. I can’t wait for Series 04.
