Synopsis: Frankenstein is nursed to health by a new friend. Later, Flag and Frankenstein team up to disprove Circe’s visions about the Princess.
The Story
Picking up where last week left off, the Bride and the rest of the Creature Commandos are sent on a mission to assassinate the princess. However, Rick Flag suspects the mission is based on false information. With Frankenstein’s help, he sets out to disprove Circe’s prophecy. To do this, they visit a university in search of the professor who first documented the prophecy. When they arrive at her home, they discover she has been murdered. Just as they’re about to leave, the person impersonating the professor arrives—and shapeshifts back into their true form. It’s Clayface.
Through a series of flashbacks to his early life, we learn that the Bride rejected Frank after he killed their creator. In shock, she threw him into a fire, leaving him severely burned. Frank’s charred body was discovered by a gypsy woman, who nursed him back to health, enabling him to resume his search for his Bride.
The Acting
Frank Grillo and David Harbour take center stage in this episode, as much of the story focuses on Flag and Frankenstein’s investigation. That said, the flashback sequences are particularly strong this week, with Irina Maleeva delivering a standout performance as Bogdana, the gypsy woman who saves Frankenstein’s life.
Overall
This was perhaps one of the strongest episodes yet. Rick Flag and Frankenstein both get some excellent character development as they work together to save the princess. Toward the end of the episode, we’re treated to a genuinely funny moment when Frank asks a dying Rick Flag if the Bride has ever mentioned him.
The flashback scenes were solid this week, showcasing a fun and unexpected bond between the gypsy and Frank. However, the tone shifts dramatically by the end, as their storyline comes to a brutal and heartbreaking conclusion.
