As we get closer to Christmas we loom ever closer to what is now the traditional ‘Doctor Who Christmas’ episode and this years special, which is titled ‘Last Christmas’ is apparently going to raise the hairs on the back of everyone’s necks on Christmas Day.
In a new interview promoting the oncoming storm Peter Capaldi told the gathered press that this is likely to be “the scariest Christmas episode ever.” And there was me thinking that ‘Eastenders’ was scary.
‘Last Christmas’ is “both very festive and jolly… and quite terrifying” Capaldi said.
“I think it’s a great episode,” he said. “It’s really quite scary – it’s one of the scariest ones we’ve done, but it’s also one of the happiest.
“Santa appears on Clara Oswald’s roof with his elves, but what might otherwise be an excuse for cheer and happiness is actually a nightmarish development – and only the Doctor knows why!
“He has to arrive and save her from what Santa’s going to bring into her life. The Doctor’s slightly competitive with other semi-mythical characters!”
“I’m not a person who corpses very much, but Nick makes me laugh – and he knows that, so he would deliberately try and provoke that in me,” the actor revealed.
“There’s lots of outtakes of me hiding behind monsters, giggling. He brings a great deal of jollity and fun and humour to that role – he’s very convincing as Santa Claus.”
The actor went onto reiterate Steven Moffat’s earlier comments that Nick Frost’s version of Santa in the show is the genuine article and not some alien impersonating the mythical character.
