The Story
Going way back to issue two. It looked very much like Peter Quill aka Starlord was dead. He’s not. After defeated the Gods of Olympus Starlord wound up on a world called Morinus and finds himself living a new life alongside two nomadic aliens. Armed only with his Element Gun, which never seems to lose charge. He works alongside his new friends Aradia and Mors doing various jobs. However, it seems that Quills Element Gun has a bit of twist to it.
The Artwork
Juann Cabal provides some fantastic art for this issue and brings us a strange new world in the form of Morinus. I loved the imagery he produces of a turtle flying through space and Morinus’s city being on the turtle’s back. Indeed this imagery had me thinking of various Terry Pratchett books. I also loved the opening few pages where Peter is his teenage self in the hospital when he is given the element gun. And how that transitions to the sequences on Morinus.
Overall
Al Ewing brings Peter Quill back to life with a weird story that seems to have a number of inspirations. It has been really weird reading Guardians of the Galaxy without Peter Quill being a part of it. So am happy that the character has been brought back and I sort of figured he’d be resurrected anyhow. It was always just a matter of how and when.
I loved the clever twist concerning the Element Gun and how that tied into bringing the Olympians back into the story.
Overall. A really fun issue, which ends with a nice little reunion and one hell of a cliffhanger to keep us in suspense until 2021.
