Synopsis: Martha and Patricia Wayne attend a debauched party with famed magician Aleister Crowley.
Review: The plot twists keep coming as Alfred begins to find his footing again after the murder of his girlfriend Esme.
The Story
Picking things up from where last week left off. Alfred is still out to find the murderer that kills Esme and he is owed a favor by John Ripper. Ripper sends Alfred to a witch who tells him to get her the severed hand of a murder and a rose on the night of a full moon. Alfred is obviously a bit reluctant, but circumstances eventually lead to him doing so anyway, which allows the witch to revealed the murderer to him via some visions.
Elsewhere Patricia Wayne is back in town and Thomas asks Marth to look after her while he deals with some CIA business, which sees him attending a truce between the No Name League and The Raven Society. His orders are to kill the head of the Raven society if she doesn’t play ball. While Thomas deals with his business. Martha and Patricia attend a party, which is held by Aleister Crowley, who is still alive in this alt-universe. He actually died in 1947. Martha and Patricia wind up missing by the close of the episode, which sees Thomas asking for Alfred’s help again.
Meanwhile, outside of London Lord, James Harewood has made a full recovery and now knows who he is and is determined to get his rightful place back. To that end, he persuades Bett Sykes and her Sister to travel to London with him.
The Acting
Jack Bannon does a great job in this episode given that he has quite a lot to do. I loved the scenes he had with John Ripper and the tension between the two men that both have a grudging respect for each other. I also enjoyed the scenes with the Witch.
Overall
This was a fairly good episode, which is building rather nicely onto the story elements that were very strongly established in the pilot episode. I’m really looking forward to seeing what goes down once Lord Harewood returns to London to reclaim his rightful place. I’m really enjoying the fact that the producers and writers are not teasing out the story threads too fast.
