Synopsis: Victorian London harbours many secrets: alien visitors, strange phenomena and unearthly powers.
But a trio of investigators stands ready to delve into such mysteries – the Great Detective, Madame Vastra, her resourceful spouse, Jenny Flint, and their loyal valet, Strax.
If an impossible puzzle needs solving, or a grave injustice needs righting, help can be found on Paternoster Row.
But even heroes can never escape their past…
Review: Madame Vastra, Jenny Flint, and Strax are three of Steven Moffat’s most interesting contributions to modern Doctor Who with The Paternoster Gang: Heritage 1, Jonathan Morris, Roy Gill, and Paul Morris demonstrate that Big Finish is the perfect platform through which to expand their corner of Victorian London. Throughout, Neve McIntosh, Catrin Stewart, and Dan Starkey convey the joy and relish with which they return to their roles.
In “The Cars That Ate London!” by Jonathan Morris, listeners explore environmental themes. They’re also given a marvelous twist on artificial intelligence. In addition, there’s a popular culture homage that warms the heart of this child of the 80’s. Along the way, Alan Cox gives a delightfully egotistical and self-righteous performance.
In “A Photograph to Remember” by Roy Gill, listeners get a love letter to Victorian spiritualism. In the process, Beth Goddard, Arthur Hughes, and Christopher Ryan give new characters life, promising interesting developments in future installments.
In “The Ghosts of Greenwich” by Paul Morris, listeners get a wonderful reworking of the history of the Royal Observatory and the Meridian Line. By the end, there’s much afoot, and I can’t wait for The Paternoster Gang: Heritage 2.
