Synopsis: Sabine goes undercover as a cadet in the Empire’s elite flight academy to help break out several young pilots wanting to defect to the rebellion.
Review: This episode puts Sabine centre stage as she is sent on a mission to bring back a few Cadets from the Empires Elite Flight school who have sympathies with the rebellion.
One of these pilots turns out to be none other than Wedge Antilles who had a huge supporting role to play in the original ‘Star Wars’ trilogy and was a close friend of Luke Skywalker.
This sort of episode is when Rebels is at its best. Especially given that we are getting some back story for Wedge, which not many outside of reading the Star Wars novels or comics would have known about.
I liked the whole Top Gun style of the Empires Elite training, which highlighted how ruthless the empire is. I mean having to follow orders when you are told to fire on an unarmed ship, which is surrendering.
The dog fight sequences were well executed and it was great to see some attention thrown onto Sabine given that so much of the series has thus far centred entirely on Ezra and Kanan.
Hopefully now that he has joined up. We’ll get to see Wedge and his friend used a little more in the series as the time line of the show moves ever closer to events that we’ll be seeing in this years ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ and ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’.
