Synopsis: While Amenadiel tries to rein in Lucifer’s wild side as they both deal with the absence of Maze, Lucifer is distracted by his mother’s escape from Hell.
Review: Lucifer returns with a somewhat lighthearted opener, which involves the murder of an actresses stand in and our anti-hero’s mother.
Chloe is now determined to find out who Lucifer is. Especially given that he survived a bullet wound, which would have killed most mortal’s. Amenadiel is determined to stop her, but is now having to rely on his wits due to the fact that his angelic powers seem to be fading out on him.
Now working alongside his brother in order to find their mother. Amenadiel has become fiercely protective. Especially given that Lucifer fears that his mother is out for his blood.
As ever this series continues to completely stand apart from its comic book origins and instead continues on with the lighthearted police procedural drama with a dash of the supernatural.
Tom Ellis continues to shine through with the combination of charm and smarm that he brought to the titular role. Yet it is D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel that continues to shine bright as the more intriguing of the two brothers.
A fun element that is revealed is the fact that Mazikeen (Lesley Ann Brandt) is now a new client of Lucifer’s therapist, but could Mazikeen’s therapy be of a similar nature to what Lucifer was having in the last series.
Either way. The concept of these various supernatural beings trying to find their way in the world of human beings is a fun one.
The actual mystery in this story was a little thin and seemed to be easily dealt with by the team.
It be interesting to see if we’ll get to see the series go a little darker like in did last year because that is when it always seems to shine. The cheeky humour of the titular character will only go so far.
The final moments of the opener do introduce us to mother though and it seems that she is in need of help and not in a position to be going after anyone. It be interesting to see how long this lasts.
