Fox’s cable subscriber channel FX has given an eight episode order for a new ‘X-Men’ drama called ‘Legion’.
Based on the comic of the same name. ‘Legion’ centres around David Haller (‘Downton Abbey’ alum Dan Stevens); since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.
In the comic books David Haller is Professor Charles Xavier’s mutant son. Xavier has been portrayed by Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy in the ‘X-Men’ franchise on the big screen, but the films have yet to introduce Haller into the cinematic universe.
Executive producing the series will be ;‘Fargo’ boss Noah Hawley. The production will be a joint affair between FX Productions and Marvel Television. The news was announced by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, Presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions.
Given that FX was the home of such adult centred shows such as ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ and ‘The Strain’ we can safely assume that ‘Legion’ will have a little more in common with the two Netflix and Marvel offerings than it will with ‘Agents Of Shield’ or the DC shows over at CW.
One things certain. The show does have an interesting premise and you can bet that a lot of Marvel fans will likely tune in if only just to check the series out.
