Today is a sad day for fans of both the new and classic ‘Thunderbirds’ series due to the passing of Sylvia Anderson, who not only voiced the original Lady Penelope, but also played a role in creating the series alongside Gerry Anderson.
The actress and ‘Thunderbirds’ co-created passed away after a short illness.
In a career that spanned five decades, she worked on ‘Joe 90’, ‘Captain Scarlet’ and also played a role in Gerry Anderson’s first live action series ‘UFO’.
She died at her Berkshire home, aged 88. Her daughter described her as “a mother and a legend”.
“Her intelligence was phenomenal but her creativity and tenacity unchallenged. She was a force in every way,” Dee Anderson said.
As well as having co-created ‘Thunderbirds’ Sylvia also helped Gerry Anderson pioneer a new form of puppetry for the series as well as helping with character development and designing costumes for the puppets.
Several generations of ‘Thunderbirds’ fans will miss Sylvia Anderson a great deal. Not only was she known and loved by fans of the classic show for her role as Lady Penelope. Fans of the rebooted series ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’ will also miss her portrayal as Lady Penelope’s Aunt Sylvia.
We here at scifipulse are incredibly saddened by the loss of such a wonderful giving and creative person.

I hope they acknowledge her passing in the next season of Thunderbirds Are Go.
They most likely will. Not sure how. But I can’t see them ignoring her contribution to the series.
