September 24, 2026 – London – BBC Studios, CinemaLive and Fathom Entertainment are inviting fans to experience Doctor Who: The Satan Pit Extended Cut, one of the most celebrated adventures of the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler era, on the big screen for the first time. The special one-night-only Doctor Who Day cinema event will take place in over 1,000 cinemas across the UK, Ireland, U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand on November 23, 2026.

The event will present The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit as a newly re-edited, movie-length cinematic cut. Deleted scenes previously available only on DVD have been restored into the story, alongside never-before-seen extended footage. Widely regarded as one of the standout stories of the modern Doctor Who era, the two-part adventure is remembered for its scale, horror, emotional stakes and introduction of the Ood.

Starring David Tennant as the Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, the story sees the TARDIS land on Sanctuary Base 6, a remote outpost on a planet orbiting a black hole. As the base crew uncover something ancient beneath the surface, the Doctor and Rose are pulled into one of their darkest adventures, facing the terrifying Ood and an evil older than time itself: the Beast.

The screening will also feature an exclusive interview with International Emmy and multiple BAFTA award-winning director and producer James Strong, reflecting on the making of the story.

Doctor Who Day takes place annually on November 23, marking the anniversary of the first episode of Doctor Who, which aired on the BBC in 1963. Each year, fans around the world come together to celebrate the series, its characters, stories and enduring legacy.

Natasha Spence, Global Events Director, BBC Studios, said:

“Part of what makes Doctor Who so extraordinary is that there is always more to discover. Even with a story as loved as The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit, we’re able to offer fans something they haven’t experienced before, with previously deleted scenes restored into the adventure and never-before-seen extended footage included in this special cinema cut. Doctor Who Day is the perfect moment to celebrate that sense of discovery with fans. We’re delighted to be working with CinemaLive again to bring this unforgettable Tenth Doctor and Rose story to the big screen, and to give audiences the chance to experience it together in cinemas for the first time.”

John Travers, Head of Acquisitions & Distribution, CinemaLive, said:

“Following the incredible reaction from fans in UK & Irish cinemas to last year’s Doctor Who season finale, we’re thrilled to be partnering with BBC Studios again and expanding the scope of this very special Doctor Who Day cinema event so that Whovians from the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand can also come together and join in this big screen celebration.”

Tickets go on sale beginning September 25, 2026, at 9am local time. To find participating cinemas and book tickets, visit doctorwhoincinemas.com in the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, or Fathom Entertainment in the U.S.

This is cool. I wonder if they’ll do the same thing next year with Blink? As it’s that episode’s 20th anniversary in 2027.
