In our newest video on the SciFiPulse Now YouTube channel, Marx Pyle and Ian Cullen delve into the often touchy subject of Star Trek canon and continuity.
The discussion centres around one big question. Were the Cherons in Let That Be Your Last Battlefield actually revealed to be extinct as a species?
To find out once and for all, Ian revisited the classic Original Series episode to see whether this was ever definitively stated on screen or whether fandom has simply accepted it as fact over the years.
The reason for the discussion stems from recent fan complaints about Cherons appearing in both Star Trek: Section 31 and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, despite many fans believing the species had died out.
Marx and Ian take a closer look at the Cherons Bele and Lokai, discussing their powers, advanced technology, and the little information that was revealed about their society and culture. In the episode, Bele is relentlessly hunting Lokai across space because the Cherons were consumed by a devastating race war, with one side of the species being black on the right side of the face and the other black on the left.
But did the episode ever actually state that Bele and Lokai were the final two surviving Cherons?
